Esophagus is a muscular tube through which food passes from the mouth to stomach. When one feels a painful sensation in the esophagus, the condition is called heartburn. Heartburn is caused by gastric acid which regurgitates below the breastbone. In simple terms, when gastric acid starts rising in the gullet (esophagus). These acids are otherwise necessary to digest the food. Heartburn is also called pyrosis. Heartburn may lead to chronic cough and asthma. It will be interesting to know that heartburn is not associated with heart. It is a problems associated with digestion system of the body.
Gullet contains a muscle at the bottom to prevent acid from rising. Muscle contracts itself to let this happen. When the muscle fails to contract, the acid starts rising. Over the years, about 100 million women worldwide are taking oral contraceptives with high estrogen content. Most of these pills, which were first sold in 1960, combine synthetic estrogen and progestin in various doses and are known to carry a small risk of blood clots and high blood pressure.
One small study from Belgium suggests that long-term use of oral contraceptives might increase the chances of having artery build-ups that can raise the risk of heart disease. Although the study needs further rigorous testing, it’s importance can never be undermined due to the great number of women that are now taking the pill.
However, Dr. JoAnn Manson, chief of preventive medicine at Harvard-affiliated Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston thinks that this theory should not cause any alarm among women. And while she had no role in the new study, which was presented Tuesday at an American Heart Association conference in Florida, she cited that many previous studies have found no large increase in heart attacks among pill users. Manson added that since they are already known to carry a small risk of blood clots and high blood pressure for women currently taking them, and any additional heart attack or stroke risk is thought to be related to those two effects.
In a long-running observational study in the small town of Erpe-Mere, researchers at the University of Ghent in Belgium studied about 1,300 healthy women ages 35 to 55 to look for other signs of heart risks among past and current pill users. According to Dr. Ernst Rietzschel, the study’s chief researcher, about 81 percent had taken oral contraceptives for more than a year at some point in their lives. Read more »

Each time your heart beats, the contractions and relaxations of the heart muscle emit electrical current. An electrocardiogram (EKG) is a medical recording of the electric impulses from the heart. Electrodes that send impulses to the EKG machine are attached to the patients skin at various points on the body. Those recorded currents are displayed on a computer monitor and can be printed out on special graph paper. Your hearts electrical currents are recorded on the graph paper as an EKG. Qualified medical staff interpret the graphed results to determine any irregularities.
Most EKGs are performed in a critical care facility, telemetry or any place that a particular patient needs to be monitored. EKGs can help your doctor determine the status of your heart health. By graphing the electrical impulses of the heart, doctors and other trained medical staff are able to see the presence of any abnormalities. Read more »

Pain may sometimes be the reason why people change. Getting flunked grades make us realize that we need to study. Debts remind us of our inability to look for a source of income. Being humiliated gives us the push to speak up and fight for ourselves to save our face from the next embarrassments. It may be a bitter experience, a friends tragic story, a great movie, or an inspiring book that will help us get up and get just the right amount of motivation we need in order to improve ourselves.
With the countless negativities the world brings about, how do we keep motivated? Try on the tips I prepared from A to Z
A – Achieve your dreams. Avoid negative people, things and places. Eleanor Roosevelt once said, the future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.
B – Believe in your self, and in what you can do.
C Consider things on every angle and aspect. Motivation comes from determination. To be able to understand life, you should feel the sun from both sides.
D Dont give up and dont give in. Thomas Edison failed once, twice, more than thrice before he came up with his invention and perfected the incandescent light bulb. Make motivation as your steering wheel.
E Enjoy. Work as if you dont need money. Dance as if nobodys watching. Love as if you never cried. Learn as if youll live forever. Motivation takes place when people are happy.
F Family and Friends are lifes greatest F treasures. Dont loose sight of them.
G Give more than what is enough. Where does motivation and self improvement take place at work? At home? At school? When you exert extra effort in doing things.
H Hang on to your dreams. They may dangle in there for a moment, but these little stars will be your driving force. Read more »

For decades, heart disease has been named as one of the foremost killers in men. When factors such as stress and anxiety combine with societal pressures and workplace expectations, the body’s cardiovascular system takes the brunt of the damage, along with the psychological make-up. However, this problem has been on a statistic decline over the years, with the fatality rate from heart diseases showing a slow decrease in incidence rates.
However, a deeper analysis of the statistics would also reveal an alarming trend. The number of men dying from heart disease has managed to level off to a more or less steady statistic, but the number of women under 45 experiencing this problem has been on a steady increase. Read more »

When an American conjures up an idea of Italian cuisine, often what comes to mind is pasta, red sauce, and garlic bread. Pasta, no doubt, plays a large part in most traditional Italian regional cuisine, and few cultures know how to employ a tomato the way that Italians can. However, there are so many distinct styles and trademarks within the different regions of Italy that it is hard to lump together all Italian regional cuisine into one general type of cooking. In reality each region has a very distinct style and taste, and there is really no way to appreciate Italian regional cuisine without visiting restaurants and eateries all over the boot.
Tuscany is a region of Italy that takes up a small piece of the western coastline on the Tyrrhenian Sea. Since a large border of the Tuscan region is coastal, seafood plays a large role in the regional cuisine of Tuscany. A coveted destination for tourists, Tuscany is overflowing with cultural experiences, with roots stemming from the Renaissance. Florence, Pisa and the busy port of Livorno all lie within this modest region. Like its simple but beautiful landscape, Tuscan cooking keeps things simple. Tuscan bread, for example is a saltless crusted compliment to their judiciously spiced entrees. Read more »
